Bees

Bees in the wrong place?

Bees rarely cause problems and many nests are best left alone until they die off naturally at the end of the season. We will be honest about whether treatment is really needed. Common situations we help with include:

  • Honeybee swarms settling on buildings, trees or cars
  • Honeybees setting up home in a chimney or wall cavity
  • Bumblebee nests next to doorways, play areas or busy paths
  • Masonry bees affecting soft mortar in older walls
  • Insects you are not sure are bees or wasps

Where possible, honeybee swarms are collected and passed to local beekeepers rather than destroyed.

FAQs

Bee control FAQs

Do you kill bees?

We always look for a bee-friendly solution first. Honeybee swarms are rehomed with beekeepers where possible, and many bumblebee nests can simply be left alone. Treatment is only considered where bees present a genuine risk to people.

How can I tell a bee from a wasp?

Bees are usually hairier and rounder, while wasps are smooth, shiny and have a narrow waist with bright yellow and black stripes. If you are unsure, call us and we will help identify it.

What should I do if a swarm lands in my garden?

Keep people and pets away, do not spray or disturb it, and call us. Swarms are often calm and will usually move on, but we can arrange collection where needed.

Will bumblebees go away on their own?

Yes. Bumblebee nests are small and only last one season. They usually die off by late summer and the nest is not reused.
